DM Orders Safety Audit of Coaching Centres and Hospitals After Lucknow Fire Tragedy

Bareilly: In the wake of the devastating fire incident in Lucknow that claimed the lives of several students, Bareilly District Magistrate Avinash Singh has directed authorities to undertake an immediate inspection of coaching centres, hospitals and other institutions operating in the district to ensure compliance with safety norms.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, the District Magistrate said that similar risks could exist in Bareilly, where several coaching institutes, hospitals and basement parking facilities are reportedly operating in residential and congested areas without adequate safety arrangements. He noted concerns regarding inadequate electrical infrastructure and fire safety measures at many such establishments.

To prevent any recurrence of such incidents, the District Magistrate issued instructions to the Senior Superintendent of Police, the Vice-Chairperson of the Bareilly Development Authority, the Municipal Commissioner, all Additional District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, the City Magistrate, the Chief Fire Officer and the Chief Medical Officer to carry out an extensive safety audit across the district.

The administration has directed officials to immediately inspect all coaching centres and institutions functioning in residential localities and take necessary steps to shift those operating in violation of regulations to designated commercial zones. Authorities have also been instructed to verify whether fire-fighting equipment and emergency safety systems are installed and functioning according to prescribed standards.

The District Magistrate emphasized that strict action will be taken against institutions found violating safety norms. He stressed that ensuring the safety of students, patients and the general public remains the administration’s top priority and that no negligence in matters of fire and electrical safety will be tolerated.

The district administration has also been asked to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and enforce regulatory compliance rigorously to prevent future accidents and enhance public safety across Bareilly.
